Am Fuaran is a traditional cosy west coast bar situated in the township of Altandhu on the Coigach peninsula approx 5 miles from the township of Achiltibuie.
“Failte gu Am Fuaran” – “welcome to the well” – There is a well at the bottom of the driveway and many years ago when people had to travel by foot they used to stop for a drink of water and a wee rest … When the bar was built it was thought a fitting name as it was a watering hole …
The bar has been trading since 1976. The founders Mr Andrew Wilson and Mrs Shona Wilson built it up from a ruin which was the home of Shona’s father the late Mr Alisdair Maclean. The building itself dates back to the 1800’s. Old photographs adorn the bar walls and give a flavour of the wealth and richness of the history behind the place.
Now the bar is owned and run by Andrew Wilson and Catriona and David Last. Andrew and Catriona are the children of the original founders Andrew and Shona Wilson.
