Hattie and her friendly team welcome you to the Hope & Anchor, a delightful former 17th century coaching inn. Like many of the inns and pubs in the area it was constructed from former ship’s timber, and it even boasts its own ghost – Ted! This traditional pub is known for its warm atmosphere and great staff, and the spacious beer garden with beautiful pots and flowerbeds, several tables, a heated smoking shelter and a barbecue is a real suntrap through the afternoons.
For those wishing to stay a little longer, the pub also boasts three comfortable en-suite letting rooms, with flat screen TV, wifi and tea/coffee making facilities, available at very reasonable room only rates and special rates for long term lets, ideal for contractors working in the area (minimum 3 months). With a great location just two minute’s walk from Wokingham station, the pub is ideally situated for easy access to London, either direct to Waterloo or via Reading to Paddington, and is just a few minutes walk from the centre of town.
Since Hattie took over as landlady in October 2009, the Hope & Anchor has established a great reputation for its live music, featuring musicians from all over the South, and is considered by many to be the premier live music venue in Wokingham. Other featured events include a weekly thursday night pub quiz, monthly CCG & board game night, charity events and much more. The Hope & Anchor is recognised for its selection of well-kept ales, and is featured in the Camra Good Beer Guide 2019. It also carries the Cask Marque award and as a Brakspear pub, the ale offering includes monthly specials from other affiliated breweries such as Marstons, Wychwood, Ringwood and Jennings, plus a regularly changing local ale. Check out the Beer page to see what selection is currently on offer.
