Frozen ready meals were the only category of frozen food not to grow in 2020.

As our Focus On Frozen report reveals this issue, sales of frozen ready meals fell 1% last year – a £4.9m loss – while every other frozen sector saw double-digit growth [Kantar 52 w/e 27 December 2020].

British Frozen Food Federation CEO Richard Harrow said this was down to the rise in scratch cooking during the UK’s national lockdowns.

“We all had a lot more time last year,” he said, adding people were choosing “frozen products to cook with like diced onion and mixes” instead.
